Handin issues

Posted 14 Jun 2006 at 11:40am to the De Young Museum project

guttered my roll overs are still not working, despite doing everything that i was supposed to do.  when they first didn't work i put each image onto the page they were supposed to be on and then put the 'do not display' message into the code part following all of the instructions in detail. i thought i would give them a few days, i reloaded the web pages and all of my images into my R drive again however this hasn't helped. is there anything more i can do?

Just sorting out the last of the things we are handing in

Frustration- Light Studio

Posted 10 Jun 2006 at 3:44pm to the De Young Museum project

Ok light studio is not the way to go

none of the lights seem to work, all materials look awful as we can not use our own materials...well at least we do not know how to use it properly anyways here are my rendered lightstudio images...hope they are ok

viz- mental ray

Posted 10 Jun 2006 at 11:41am to the De Young Museum project

oops haven't blogged for a wee while have been very busy playing with VIZ! have been using mental ray and lightstudio for my images.

here are the setting i have used to produce my mental ray images...

mental ray

the best settings i seem to have been getting is using a sunlight (not daylight) placed very high in the sky, playing with the intensity and shadows.  shadows on raytraced and changing the shadow colour from black to grey, and changing the decay to inverse. trace depth was changed to 8

light properties

i enabled the global illunination. under environment light settings i used the logarithmic exposure control. for interior shots i used a brightness of 45, contrast  50. with my interior lights i changed the colour to have a bit of a yellowish tinge and changed the decay to inverse

materials

the glass was something to play with.  using the mental ray material DGS, with settings shiny: 0, transparency 0.75 and index of refraction 1.5

we applied the our own material for wood and the copper...even able to create a copper mesh that light can pass through thanks to matt.  for the copper i used a tile of 3 and 3 in the material with a bumb map (of the same material obviously) of 200, changed the specular colour to a redish grey to create that dull aged copper look.   in the garder courtyard shot i applied a relection bump to it of only around 10 to give a bit of something special. the mesh involved a similar process but instead of a bumb map applied an opacity layer of 100 of a map with black holes. two types of timber was used...the same bitmap but wiith a variation of colour.   the specular level was 27 and glossiness 35 for a nice sheen to it.

I have not been able to connect to the internet for 3 days now, effecting my ablity to blog.  i am not the only person to have experienced...nearly every person i have talked to has this issue.

but hurray the technitions have finally shown me how to fix it (well, actually has just shown julie) by unticking a tick box under the internet options tool.

this is the reason why i have not been able to do the reasonate questionaire...it will finally be done now.

material gathering

Posted 23 May 2006 at 3:40pm to Joanna's personal blog

we at de young one's don't really think that any of the materials in VIZ is appropriate for our buidling so we are making some more.  I'm making some wood...kinda difficult getting the wood grain even...here it goes tho
