Layers
Posted 03 Jun 2006 at 9:56pm by Kevin Park
One thing that i never got around to update when i blogged about layers during the assignment wee while ago was the naming of the layers.
As the building became more complex, and more things to model, number of layers also started to increase as well. I got to a point where i couldnt pick the right layer without trying one or two first (if im lucky). So i developed a layering system that worked for me. This turned out to be one of the best decision i made during the assignment, which made my modelling much more efficient and less frustrating and less time choosing the right layers. The system was:
Name of the building_the part of the floor (eg: g for ground and 2 for second floor)_part the layer belongs to (eg carpet, floor, walls etc etc)
This layering system is an upgrade version to what i blogged at the start of the project, when there were only few layers. Below is the screen print of my layers in my latest file.

Backing up files
Posted 03 Jun 2006 at 8:48pm by Kevin Park
In order to save every file and keep record of everything, without having the world falling through on us if we were to accidently delete our files or whatever!!!! We saved our modelling sessions to two CDs changing between the two every time we saved. This means if we lose one of the CD or become damaged, then we would only lose one modelling session. Plus, I saved my file onto my USB stick as well.
The better idea would have been if i uploaded every CAD files, after every session onto my resaonate as a blog, however my reasonate account didnt let me upload any of the AutoCAD files for most of the time for some weird reason. Until David Harrison fixed up my problem. he said it wasnt working because my reasonate file thought my CAD files were jpeg format. So that is why i uploaded whole lot of the files at once towards the end.
finishing touches

i have added the handrails for the back balcony. They are meant to be cylinder shape, but since those geometry take a long time to render, i have made them rectilinear. But unless i do a real close up shot, you cant really tell much difference.
This was done by combination of "extrude" and "array" tool. Piece of cake!
