Webpage still not working
Posted 13 Jun 2006 at 3:41pm by Justin Moyes
Hi David,
It looks like my web page has changed again to that 3d model thing, this isn't even on my R drive! The index page is right at the front of all the folders, so I dont see why there is a problem still!
Is there any way you can just delete whats in my web area on reasonate and upload whats in my R drive? I haven't changed anything on my R drive since the hand in date, and that 3d model page that is coming up now isn't even on my R drive near the front of the folder!
Web page not working

Sorry just read your reply,
The final model page should have the 3d model words and the 3d model in powerpoint words centred.
The final renders page should have a picture splitting up the two rendering engines used and 8 pictures on each side, so one needs to be added to the bottom of the left hand side.
And all the pages should have no "editable region" words on them
Web area still not updated
Posted 12 Jun 2006 at 11:57am by Justin Moyes
My web area still isn' t updated, in my R drive the files are all correct and up to date, but reasonate hasn't updated to whats in it, I am getting a bit worried about this and I would like to know if this is going to be fixed anytime soon? And will I get marked on whats up on my website or what should be up? One important render is still not up on my website but it is on the html page on my R drive!
All the files were put in the R drive before 11pm on thursday 8th June

The two rendering egines
Posted 08 Jun 2006 at 1:26pm by Justin Moyes
The two rendering engines I used were Light Studio and Default Scanline.
I found that light studio came out with better, more realistic, shadows than scanline, this was probably due to me not knowing fulluy how to use the meshing in default scanline. Light Studio came out with more realistic definitions of the spaces, it provided more depth, and if the computers would let me I would have been able to get sharper, more detaile renders.
Default scanline was good for the artificial lighting, although some lights wouldnt even turn on. The renders came out more plastic when using daylighting, and generally I just preferred light studio.
As you can see from the comparison renders on my web page they are two very different results.
HDR image

Heres my HDR image, it is cool being agble to change the exposure to see the image more clearly, it would have been better if I had modeled outside so you could see in and out.
I have also attatched to program to view the image.

Rendering
Posted 07 Jun 2006 at 10:49pm by Justin Moyes
I have been getting through my renders now, i only have two more to do.
I have been getting pissed off with VIZ because I had some great ideas, and our model was made very detailed for some great renders, but because I couldn't get a few things to work, especially artificial lights, the whole models effect was lost!
The renders I have produced have mainly been produced due to necesity, I had to just draw a line at how detailed I wanted everything, which for some seemed to work because I did get a few good renders out.
Heres the main points I found when rendering with viz:
Make sure you take out all the layers you dont need to see when you are applying materials or setting up lights so that the renders go quick!
The UVW map is a god send when applying materials
Learn the renderers with small models; maybe just a few cubes
If you think it should work then it is probably going to take a few days before you find the small button to fix or do what you want
Faking things is much easier than doing it right, I made things right and it took a few days to get it, or in some cases like my wooden floors they dont come right at all
High quality renders are as good as low quality when you dont have the materials right
Practice makes perfect, dont leave it till the last minute, I found that I could get good renders quick when I new the program well.
My last little word about rendering, it may take a while but its worth it!

Gidday
At some point very soon you ought to at the very least put up the information in (coloured/annotated) plan form of who is modelling what - to explain to the uninitiated what your plans are, in order to complete Assignment 2 adequately.
